For a wetsuit, we find that your weight is usually the most important measurement to follow. Height is less critical as a wetsuit will still function well if the legs are a little too long or short. We also suggest going for the smaller size if you are tossing up between two sizes.. most women's returns come back because the wetsuit fitted 'Too large'.

Good spring and summer wetsuit.

I have worn this wetsuit about six times now.

The wetsuit is very comfortable to wear and the easiest of any wetsuit I have worn to get on. Sizing for a small mens is the largest of any brand wetsuit I have worn but not a big issue. There is extra length in the legs and arms.

The body and legs are kept warm by the internal insulation however my arms are very quick to get cold as there is no insulation.

The backzip works well allowing for a good seal around my neck and minimal water flush.

I use this wetsuit for kitesurfing, winging and on the SUP.

Yes I would recommend this wetsuit and will look at them when I purchase my next suit.

O'Neill Australia

Hi Neil, we find they are pretty similar in warmth, some customers find the Hyperfreak 3/2+ slightly warmer, whereas others find the defender warmer. Warmth can be subjective, thanks for sharing your experience! Both wetsuits are warmer than our Reactor, Focus and Factor series, and the Psycho's and Hyperfreak Fire's are the warmest.

Good value for money, but needs some improvements fir comfort.

The overall fit and comfort of the suit is good. However, the neck line is very low compared to other suits I've had, making it a little restrictive and uncomfortable. The lower leg is also I little bigger than nearly every suit I've had, which is probably the real issue.

Warmth is fantastic, excellent materials to finish on a positive.

Ridiculously Warm! Does the job

Excellent Wetsuit! I bought this for white water rafting and river trips knowing that I'd much rather be warm than cold. The Wetsuit seals well and holds out 99.3% of the water. Crazy warm (I found myself on the warmer days to simply jump into the water and let water in. The thermal lining over the chest and legs is excellent!

Chest zipper entry new and different for me. It's like slipping into a bivy bag. But it's purpose works extremely well minimising water entry when compared to a back zipper.

At 5'6 and 60kgs I actually fitted a Boys 16 Wetsuit better than a Men's Small. Spot on the correct decision.

My advice: try on at your local surf store, and be happy with the fit. The tighter and snug the fit the better. Also, ask your local if they will price match as O'Neills online was very well priced and shipped extremely fast

Went out in 13 Celsius, never felt cold, even when duck diving, amazing warmth from the 4/3 Defender, unlike some other front zip wetsuit a very popular brand, I find that water doesn't "Dam" in my lower back, which makes me feel cold after awhile, not to mention annoying. If on occasions, water does flush down into to the lower back, after a serious duck dive getting under a monster, it doesn't stay there and the wetsuit warms up again fairly quickly, even sometimes when paddling, I can feel the wetsuit reflecting my body heat, very warm...nooice!! a solid product, very happy, I feel no FEAR, when looking out across the ocean on a frigid winters morn.

I tried the Defender3/2 back zip for the first time this morning in a 700m ocean swim in water temp between 16'C and 17.C. It was comfortable, warm and not restrictive.

I find the Defender range much to my liking - durable; perform very well and reasonably priced for what you get.

I also continue to be surprised at how quickly O'Neill deliver their products.

First time steamer

This is my first 4/3 steamer as I've only started surfing this year in Victoria. Mostly surf at urbnsurf and was starting to get abit cold in the 3/2 short sleeve surfed some cold mornings and some cold windy afternoons and wow this thing is warm !!! Have not been cold for one second was in the water for 3 hours over the weekend not one shiver! And I think it is pretty flexible don't feel too restrictive and am able to move freely! Feels very durable aswell very happy with the purchase will definitely be buying my next wet suit from O'Neil , so far so good !
