Born into a core surfing family and raised on the reefs and beachies of the Central Coast, it was obvious that surfing would play a huge part in Joel's life.
A Dad who was a gun soccer player, raising 4 lively boys, growing up amongst a serious local talent pool and a successful North Shelly Boardriders club. Real Surfers, real Aussie characters... and a bit of mongrel that we all love.
Battling with older brothers, always breeds a certain toughness and a competitive streak.
Joel has since gone on to build one hell of a junior career and a reputation with his peers, as a good bloke that always goes big and always goes hard. On a pure surfing level, Joel is one of the very best young talents globally.
With his rookie year on the WSL about to kick off at Pipe, it's an exciting time in this young fellas life... one that he's had to work really hard for, to burst through, and now performing on the world stage.
O'Neill is both stoked and proud, to be able to support Joel in his quest to the top . We welcome him to the O'Neill family. Joel is what we often refer to as "The Surfer's Surfer".
