Russ was born in Oahu, Hawaii, living there until he was 5 years old. Playing in the ocean in and around the North Shore hooked him into surfing for life. Addicted to the ocean and the adrenaline rush it brings, Russ combined them both to be a big wave surfer, his ultimate dream job.

After graduating from high school, his main priority was trying to surf the biggest and heaviest waves possible. "I'm really looking forward to pushing my limits in big waves and traveling the world, doing what I love," Russ stated.

Since that time, Russ has gone onto qualify for the WSL Big Wave Tour, won the Redbull Cape Fear event and received several Big Wave and Heavy Water awards. His films with Andrew Kaneider have also been well-recognised, with 'Flow State' winning Surf Video of the Year in 2020 and 'Outer Edge of Leisure' recently winning Surf Clip of the Year for 2023.

Widely regarded as one of the best big wave chargers on the planet, we look forward to the road ahead and seeing what Russ continues to achieve in the world of premium slab surfing.
